Welcome to Gambrill Real Estate!Gambrill Real Estate began in Nov/Dec of 2004 with the purchase of two apartment buildings in Thurmont, MD. The first property is located on 26 W. Main St. and it was built around 1893. It has a stone foundation and the front of the building has half-sawn timber joists with the bark still intact. The other property is located at 231 N. Church St. It was built in 1871 by John Lohr as the Western Maryland Hotel with 16 rooms and the intent to serve the local railroad station which, unfortunately for John Lohr and his bank account, was moved to Carroll Street. The hotel was converted to a family residence and then later to apartments; a modest history was compiled from several sources. Most of the conversion was done using shoddy workmanship and poor quality materials. To make matters even worse, the building was severly neglected for many years until renovation was begun in Dec. 2004. The top floor has been completed and the first floor will be finished soon, and and some renovations will then be made to the middle floor. The last part of the house to be renovated will be the tragically built and maintained extension. Most of the door jams to the old hotel rooms have been preserved but filled in during combining of rooms to make larger apartments. The building currently has two efficiencies, two one-bedroom, and one three-bedroom apartments. The extension, when renovated, will contain a one-bedroom apartment.
All of the exterior, common areas (stairs and landings) and four of six apartments will be completed by June of 2006. The exterior renovation of the main part of the building is complete thanks to the great help of Eric, Michael, and their crew of painters. If you want the contact info for a great crew of painters please contact us. Eric and his friendly and efficient crew are much more than painters; they did an extensive amount of brick and facia board repair and replacement. We also are very happy with our electrician, Larry Smith and will gladly recommend and provide his contact phone number as well. We are still looking for a good plumber so if you have any suggestions please send us a contact number and a short description of why they are worthy of our business. The extension will be one of the last projects that we begin as it has to undergo both an interior and exterior redesign. The front wall will have to be completely demolished and rebuilt due to poor design, poor maintenance, and most importantly, obtuse pest control management. . |
